Hey Sewsistas! For today’s post I wanted to share this gorgeous and ever so modest kaftan I made a while back. I made this kaftan for Eid Al-Fitr(which is a Muslim Holiday after the month of fasting known as Ramadan) but didn’t get a chance to post about it as the blog was still under construction.
This is the first kaftan I’ve ever made and I am totally in love with it. What I love about kaftans besides being very modest and elegant, is that they look great on every body type and are very easy to style.
Simplicity 5900, can also be found, here, and, here.
Misses sizes 10-16 Bust 32 1/5″-to-38″
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing it?
Yes, besides the alterations I made to it.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
For the most part yes, I just had an issue with installing the zipper
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I liked that it’s a one size fits all pattern
I like that it comes with a belt
It called for a 20-22″ zipper when a 5-6″ zipper would have been sufficient
Sleeves were about an inch too short
The belt folds over when walking or sitting
Rayon Poplin 100% Viscose
Pattern Alterations or any design changes made:
The only changes I made was removing the collar band.
Would you sew it again?
Yes I would sew it again, but I would make the following modifications:
Use a 5″ or 6″ zipper
Make the sleeves an inch or two longer
Add interfacing to the belt to prevent it from bending in half while I’m walking or sitting
On a scale of one to three, one being the least, how modest is this pattern?
Three, totally modest
Love the way it turned out.
